COLLIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people were taken into custody following a shooting and SWAT situation in Collier Township.
Police surrounded a home on Camp Hill Road, just off of Interstate 79, around noon Friday.
“We’ve lived here almost three years and never had any problem down here,” said Samantha Cairns, a neighbor.
It started as an argument between a man and his former roommate over an unpaid debt. Alex Higie, 23, shot the other man in the leg twice, according to police. The shooting victim is expected to survive.
“I’m shocked. I have no idea what could have happened,” said Katarina Rivera, a neighbor.
A Channel 11 photographer heard officers using a bullhorn to ask Higie to let his young son out of the home. After about an hour, the boy, 3, was released unharmed.
“If he saw the whole thing, I feel really bad for him and his mom,” said Cairns.
Higie and a woman were taken into custody. While handcuffed, Higie appeared to cooperate with police as they searched the property for the gun. Investigators also tested his hands for gunshot residue.
Allegheny County Police are leading the investigation.
Channel 11's Renee Kaminski reported police plan to file charges against Higie. It’s unclear whether the woman who was taken into custody will face any charges.
