The Uniontown Mall is joining the nationwide trend to close on Thanksgiving Day, with some provisions.

The new owners of the mall, Namdar Realty Group of New York, made the decision. But stores that have their own entrances can be open -- and some have chosen to do so.

While the mall itself and most of its 70 tenants will be closed Thanksgiving,

that department stores will announce their own hours.

The tenants that have their own entrances have the option to open on Thanksgiving,” Uniontown Mall general manager Pam Moore

"That would be theater, that would be the restaurants, as long as they have their own entrances.”

Other stores that have the option to open on Thanksgiving at the mall include Sears, JC Penney, Burlington Coat Factory and Bon-Ton, the latter of which will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

It was not clear if the movie theater will be open, as Carmike Cinemas is currently in the process of selling the theater to AMC Theaters. However, both companies typically are open on Thanksgiving.

“It is one of the more popular movie-going days of the year,” AMC spokesman Ryan Noonan said.

So, Uniontown mallgoers may not have all of their favorite stores open on Thanksgiving, but they’ll likely have plenty of choices if they choose to shop on the holiday.

Other local malls that will be closed include Washington Town Center and Monroeville Mall. Both are owned by the company CBL.
