NORTH FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — All of Interstate 70 has reopened in Washington County but the cleanup from an overturned tanker truck that was leaking could take a few more days.

The westbound lanes were closed for much of Thursday due to a crash involving a tanker truck and a passenger vehicle near mile marker 13 in North Franklin Township, Washington County.

According to state police, the tanker truck was headed east around 3 a.m. when the driver lost control, drove through the grass median, and struck a car that was headed west. The crash caused the tanker to roll over.

The driver of the car was flown to the hospital.

Hazmat was called in because the tanker truck was leaking diesel fuel. The truck also spilled 5,000 gallons of flooring wax.

Crews spent much of the day Thursday digging wax out of the grassy median.

The Department of Environmental Protection said an environmental contractor is on site at the crash and that the extent of environmental impacts are not known at this time.
