LATROBE, Pa. — A 76-year-old drive-thru customer at a McDonald’s in Westmoreland County was run over by her own car Saturday after she dropped her food.
The accident happened at the fast-food location at Mt. Laurel Plaza.
Pennsylvania State Police said the Mount Pleasant woman opened her driver’s side door and leaned over to pick up the food, which had dropped after the McDonald’s employee handed it to her from the window. The car accelerated forward, its driver’s side door struck the building and the woman fell out.
After the woman fell, the car continued moving forward until it crashed into a block wall in the parking lot, police said. It then rolled back and ran over the woman.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Arnold Palmer Regional Airport and flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate to severe injuries. She was listed in serious condition as of Monday evening.
