SAN JOSE, Calif. — Elizabeth Sedway, the woman who was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight from Hawaii to California just before takeoff Monday because of airline employee concerns that she was too weak to fly, has ended the ordeal on a happy note.
Sedway shared her family's decision on her Facebook page.

"Our family talked during the flight home from Hawaii, and decided how we wanted this situation to conclude. As with most unpleasant times, there are silver linings, if we're determined to find them. Here, we plan to donate the airfare, to be refunded by Alaska Airlines,to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation – MMRF. In the future, we hope this airline will look at events of this kind with increased wisdom and sensitivity."
After media coverage of Sedway’s experience on Tuesday, which caused her family to delay their trip home by a day, Alaska Airlines apologized for the family’s treatment and reimbursed their airfare and the cost of an overnight hotel stay in Lihue, Hawaii.
“We regret the inconvenience Ms. Sedway experienced (Monday) and are very sorry for how the situation was handled. Her family’s tickets have been refunded and we will cover the cost of her family’s overnight accommodations in Lihue. While our employee had the customer’s well-being in mind, the situation could have been handled differently.”
