PITTSBURGH — Renovations are continuing at a well-known Pittsburgh park.
Within the last year, a fountain was added to Allegheny Commons Park on the North Side, and park officials told Channel 11 they’re just beginning efforts that make them excited for what’s ahead.
The initiative will cost $1.1 million.
Perhaps the most noticeable part of the project will cover three small blocks from Sandusky to Federal Street, right across from Allegheny General Hospital.
Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy officials are focusing on the portion that cuts through Federal Street and the sidewalk.
Crews will replace the middle lane with a raised garden and cut for a crosswalk.
Street parking will be eliminated in that space as well.
The bike station will be shifted to a new spot near the bus shelter.
There are also plans to move a fountain, fix cracked and broken sidewalks, and add even more lighting poles.
This phase of the project is expected to wrap up in November.
