PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Allderdice will be closed until next Monday, March 15 because of nine positive cases of COVID-19 and multiple exposures impacting students, as well as staff.
All athletic activities are canceled, including Monday night’s boys basketball game with Brashear. Pittsburgh Public Schools are not currently holding in-person classes.
On Friday, Channel 11 reported that players and coaches of five high school girls basketball programs were in quarantine due to positive cases of COVID-19.
According to officials with Pittsburgh Public Schools, two individuals with the Pittsburgh Allderdice Girls Basketball Team tested positive. They were last with the team on March 4.

School officials said games were held this week with the Allderdice team against teams from Brashear, Obama and Perry schools. That’s why players and coaches from those programs need to quarantine for two weeks.
Additionally, a separate case of COVID-19 impacting a person associated with the Pittsburgh Westinghouse girls program has prompted coaches and players to quarantine.
With five teams now on hold for two weeks, the district is looking into the possibility of continuing the rest of the girls basketball season.
The closure will not affect the team playing in the state playoffs, according to a news release.
