PITTSBURGH — Dashcam video shows a Pittsburgh Pirates player allegedly involved in a DUI crash in South Korea.
According to a report from
, Jung Ho Kang was charged Friday (Korea Standard Time) in Seoul, following a DUI accident that he allegedly fled.
Cars in South Korea are equipped with dashcams. The video, which was aired on Korean media, shows the car going around a bend, then slamming into a guardrail. Police said Kang fled the scene.
Friday night, a Korean news agency reported that a passenger in the car tried to take the blame for the crash, but the car's black box told them Kang was behind the wheel.
In a statement, Kang said:
"I'd like to apologize to everyone who is disappointed with me. Today, I got behind the wheel after drinking, and committed an irrevocable mistake. I panicked at the moment of the accident and did something that I never should have done. I am deeply regretting the incident. I will humbly accept whatever punishment is deemed fit for my actions."

that stated Kang allegedly had a 0.084 percent blood alcohol level. Yoo noted the legal limit is 0.05 percent.

Kang apparently crashed into the guard rails, but caused damage only to his own vehicle and public property,

Pirates President Frank Coonelly issued the following statement in response to the reported charges:
"We have been made aware of the very serious charges filed against Jung Ho Kang early Friday morning in Seoul, South Korea."We are extremely disappointed in Jung Ho and in his decision process during this matter. I know first hand how foolish and dangerous it is to drive under the influence and am most thankful that, as we understand it, no one was injured."We will have further comment once we have been able to gather all of the relevant facts and speak with the player."
The Pirates had no new comments Friday. Channel 11 News asked the State Department if this could affect Kang's visa status, and an employee there said government officials cannot comment on any specific cases.
