“We’ve listened to the fans, we’ve really heard their voices,” said Pirates President Travis Williams. “We know they wanted improved speed of service, they wanted better quality of food offerings. They wanted their favorites faster.”
11 News was told that’ll happen from the moment fans walk into the ballpark. State-of-the art security technology allows for quicker fan entry, new express concession stations allow you to walk through and instantly get your ballpark favorites and new drink rails let fans congregate, socialize and keep up on the action without clogging up the main concourse.
“Ballparks and baseball evolve,” said Williams. “The last couple of years between the social spaces that we’ve created, the food items that we’ve offered and making sure that we make sure people don’t lose their sense of connection to the action. All of that is really intended to enhance that fan experience.”
The new scoreboard, which is two times as large as the previous one, will give fans even more ways to stay locked in on the game. And if you’re making it an outing for the whole family, kids of all ages will want to try out the new batting cages with technology to match your swing to one of the Buccos.
The new food options at PNC Park are ones fans are going to love. Of course, you have your classics in premium chicken tenders and specialty hot dogs. But there’s new additions like a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a new twist on a Pittsburgh classic, Mrs. T’s mini pierogis topped with pulled pork.
The Pirates home opener is Friday, April 7, against the Chicago White Sox. First pitch is set for 4:12 p.m.
