Johan Oviedo shines but Pirates lose to Cardinals 3-0

ST. LOUIS — Johan Oviedo pitched great against his old team Friday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Cardinals 3-0 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Oviedo (1-1) gave up only one run in seven innings while striking out 10 but was the tough-luck loser. The Cardinals evened the four-game series at one game apiece.

The big right-hander scattered six hits and walked only one in lowering his season ERA to 2.45 through three starts. The Pirates acquired Oviedo and corner infield prospect Malcom Nunez from the Cardinals in a trade last Aug. 2 for left-hander Jose Quintana and reliever Chris Stratton.
