PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh Pirates legend was honored by City Council Tuesday, though this all-time great never stepped foot on the baseball diamond.
Phil Coyne is a longtime usher for the Pirates - 81 years, to be exact.
He started back when the team played at Forbes Field, which was just a few blocks from where he grew up in Oakland. Next it was on to Three Rivers Stadium and now PNC Park.

Coyne is 99 years old and you can still find him at the ballpark, clearing seats and helping fans.
Councilman Dan Gillman called Coyne the most famous resident of the city’s District 8.
“Recognition that is long overdue to someone who has dedicated their life to this city, to serving their country, to the Pittsburgh Pirates, to the neighborhood of Oakland, to a true legend of the city of Pittsburgh,” Gillman said.
Pirates President Frank Coonelly was on hand to hear the official proclamation that named Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, as Phil Coyne Day in the city of Pittsburgh.
