PITTSBURGH — Mount Lebanon native and WWE start Kurt Angle will be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017, the WWE says.
Angle was a world-class amateur wrestler who became a two-time NCAA champion at Clarion University and went on to win a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Joining professional wrestling, Angle signed with the WWE in 1998, the wrestling organization said. He made his debut one year later in the Survivor Series 1999. Angle captured his first WWE championship in 2000 after he defeated Dewayne "The Rock" Johnson.
He retired from the WWE in 2006.
Tickets for the ceremony go on sale Friday.
