Haden, Spillane ruled out for Steelers’ Sunday night game in Buffalo

PITTSBURGH — Both Joe Haden and Robert Spillane will not play Sunday night for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as both starters are dealing with nagging injuries from the team’s first loss of the season.

The Steelers take on the Buffalo Bills right here on Channel 11 on Sunday Night Football, with coverage starting at 7:30!

Earlier Friday, the Steelers activated starting center Maurkice Pouncey from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Pouncey has missed the last two games while on the list, and J.C. Hassenauer started in his place.

Pouncey started 10 games this season before missing the Baltimore and Washington games.

Now the only Pittsburgh player on the COVID-19 list is linebacker Vince Williams, who was placed there on Thursday.

Williams has started all 12 games so far this season at right inside linebacker. It’s a position that has now been decimated by injury. Devin Bush went down early in the season with an injury. Robert Spillane was tapped to fill in for Bush, but has been ruled out for at least the next game with a knee injury.

Avery Williamson now appears to have a much greater role within the Steelers defense despite only being on the team for several weeks. He was acquired in a trade with the New York Jets.

Williams led the team in tackles with 63 on the season.

The depth of the NFL’s third-ranked defense will be tested against one of the league’s most dynamic offenses. Cam Sutton is in line to replace Haden.
