PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is launching the National Sports Brain Bank to research concussions and CTE.
Two former Steelers, Jerome Bettis and Merril Hoge, have pledged to donate their brains for research.
Besides CTE, the Brain Bank will also research other degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s, dementia and ALS.
It will accept brains donated from both professional and amateur athletes of all types.
Long term, officials hope to develop therapies and treatments.
