PITTSBURGH — Santonio Holmes has officially retired from the NFL as a Pittsburgh Steeler.

The team made the announcement Tuesday during a news conference at their South Side headquarters.

“I wanted to do it to pay respect and honor to an organization that gave me an opportunity,” Holmes said.

Holmes was drafted by the Steelers in 2006 and spent four seasons in Pittsburgh, winning Super Bowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals.

Who can forget the amazing catch in the corner of the end zone? That touchdown led to a Steelers win and earned Holmes MVP honors.

“No matter where I travel, I will always be remembered as the Pittsburgh Steelers receiver who caught one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history," Holmes said.
