PITTSBURGH — The NHL and the Players Association have agreed to a four-day pause over the Christmas weekend in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The league will suspend all operations and postpone all games from Dec. 22 through Dec. 25. All team facilities will also be shut down during that time. There will be no testing and no practice during those days.

This means that Thursday’s game between the Penguins and the Flyers is impacted.

The Penguins’ Tuesday game against the New Jersey Devils was already postponed as the Devils try to contain a team outbreak.

A number of franchises had already made decisions over this past weekend that they were going to shut down completely until after the holiday. Those teams included the Blue Jackets, Canadiens, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Bruins, Predators, Flames, Avalanche and Panthers.

On Sunday, it was announced that all games between a U.S.-based team and a Canada-based team would be postponed this week until after the Christmas break.

NHL players participation in the Olympics is also still up in the air.
