PITTSBURGH — Masks are recommended by all fans who plan on taking in the Penguins first preseason contest Monday night at PPG Paints Arena regardless of vaccination status, according to team officials.

Our partners at TribLIVE.com received a statement from the team ahead of the first game against the Columbus Blue Jackets:

“The Penguins and arena officials will continue to follow the guidance set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The team will remain in contact with local and state government and public health agencies, guided by our medical partners at UPMC. At this time, face coverings are recommended for all guests.”

A message posted to the arena’s website alerts fans that it is a fully cashless facility, meaning it won’t be accepted for food, drink and merchandise purchases.

Additionally, all tickets to get into the games must be presented on a mobile device. A separate website message reminds fans that you’ll need to show your mobile ticket on a smartphone and screen shots of barcodes and print outs will not be permitted.
