PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins forward Brandon Tanev was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct after the referees determined he was guilty of an egregious hit.

About three-quarters of the way through the second period, Tanev hit Jarred Tinordi on the Bruins about 5-6 feet from the boards in front of the Boston bench. Tinordi then hit the boards with his back and his head before lying on the ice.

Tinordi hit Evegeni Malkin early in the first period. Malkin did not return to the ice to start the second period.
