PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded Matt Murray in exchange for forward Jonathan Gruden and a 2020 second-round draft pick from the Ottawa Senators.
The Penguins made the announcement Wednesday.
Gruden is signed through the 2022-23 season. His contract has an average annual value of $788,333.

“We would like to thank Matt for everything he’s done in his five seasons with the Penguins,” Penguins executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement. “He was instrumental to our back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships, and we wish him the best.”
Gruden, a Rochester Hills, Michigan, native, was drafted by the Senators in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
With the addition of the 52nd overall pick, the Penguins now have the following five selections in the 2020 NHL Draft:
- Round 2 - Pick #52
- Round 3 - Pick #77
- Round 4 - Pick #108
- Round 5 - Pick #139
- Round 6 - Pick #170
