Pittsburgh-area native Alex Miklasevich is participating in his first Olympic games, rowing on the Men’s Eight Crew team.
Miklasevich is from Forest Hill and rowed for Central Catholic High School before going to Brown University.
He told Channel 11 rowing Pittsburgh’s rivers helped him prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.
“The river can get pretty churned up after the winter and all the storms, so one thing is just riding the difficult water, and that’s good. That’ll be very important in Tokyo,” Miklasevich said. “I think also just sort of the spirit of Pittsburgh and you really get to experience the city in a different way, rowing that early morning, watching the sun come up, so I think that determination and joy makes me love the sport.”
Miklasevich will row on the same team as his high school classmate, Michael Grady.
