BEIJING, China — David Wise is the only man to ever win Olympic gold in the skiing halfpipe and in Beijing, he’s going for the three-peat.
The halfpipe debuted at the 2014 games. Wise won the gold then and then repeated in 2018.
He believes he’ll be the hardest guy to beat in Beijing because he has nothing to prove.
The father of two said his children and wife are his biggest cheerleaders.
He wrote a children’s book about them.
“The story started with just a fairy tale I would tell my kids about this bear who meets a butterfly, who changes his perspective and sort of takes his attention away from the mountains,” he said. “So, you can see the mountains in the background, but here’s the bear, which represents me, looking towards something new, which is kind of what my wife did when she came into my life.”
Wise’s biggest competition at the Olympics is his U.S teammate Alex Ferriera who he narrowly beat for gold in Pyeongchang.
