PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh’s football program has a rich history when it comes to the NFL draft.
This weekend, more Panthers are hoping to be added to that list, including Coraopolis native Dane Jackson.

"Four years ago, you couldn’t tell me I’d be in this position," said Jackson.
Fast forward, and the All-ACC defensive back has been doing all he can to stay prepared for the weekend. He's been improvising during the pandemic – finding any open field and working out in his aunt's weight room.
“With everything going on, everything is crazy, everything is a whirlwind,” said the star defensive back. “You don’t know what’s coming next, so how prepared can you be? You have to get ready when that time comes.”
Jackson's character is immediately noticeable. It's something his high school coach at Quaker Valley, John Tortorea, saw from day one.
"Nothing about me," said Tortorea. "He was never an ‘I’ guy; he was always looking for the betterment of somebody else. That was what was special about him."
Jackson's character isn't his only noticeable trait.
"He would do things on the field that I’ve never seen anybody be able to do," Tortorea said.
Ahead of a weekend that could change his life forever, Jackson said it all comes back to his roots.
“It's the best thing that ever happened," said Jackson. "A lot of people where I’m from don’t get to make it this far. This is me being able to represent Pitt. Me being able to carry on that tradition and hopefully hearing my name called. Honestly, I can’t even explain the feeling."
Well, he tried to.
“I’m picturing a lot of excitement and joy, but I might get sensitive and I might cry,” the defensive back said.
If Jackson is selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, it'll be the 26th straight year the WPIAL has had a former player drafted.
Jackson said he plans on watching the draft at home with his family. His mom is cooking a bunch of food, including his favorite -- Cajun shrimp pasta.
