USFL plans to hold playoffs in Canton, Ohio at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium

CANTON, Ohio — Football fans may be flocking to Canton a little earlier this year after the USFL announced plans to hold playoff games in the same stadium that hosts the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, adjacent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, can hold 20,000 fans.

The USFL season kicks off April 16 and will feature the Kirby Wilson-led Pittsburgh Maulers. All regular season games will be played in Birmingham, Alabama.

Following the 10-week regular season, the top two teams in each division will play each other starting June 25 in Canton. The final two teams will play in the championship on Sunday, July 3.

Former Pitt wide receiver Aaron Matthews announced he was joining the USFL draft pool. Matthews played for the Panthers from 2016-2019. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver hails from Clairton, the home of Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd.

The draft will take place later this month.
