PITTSBURGH — Record-breaking warmth is possible Wednesday before a harsh dose of reality arrives during the day Thursday.

Temperatures will climb more than 30 degrees Wednesday from the 40s just after sunrise to the upper 70s by late in the afternoon. Our forecast high for Wednesday is 79 degrees. The record for the date is 78 degrees, set in 1898.

A cold front arrives Thursday with on-and-off rain showers and falling temperatures. A few wet snowflakes might mix in with the raindrops Thursday evening as precipitation heads out of the area.
