TIMELINE: Route 837 closed after landslide, flash flood warnings extended for multiple counties

PITTSBURGH — UPDATE 10:20 p.m.: A portion of Route 837 in West Mifflin is closed until further notice due to a landslide.

Route 837 has closed in both directions between the Boswell Oil Company in Dravosburg and the McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge, county officials said.

This comes after heavy storms and strong winds rolled through Western Pa. Saturday evening.

The roadway will be closed until further notice.

UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: The flash flood warning has been extended for Allegheny, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

It is now in effect until 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: Flash flooding has closed many roads after severe storms brought more than two inches of rain to parts of the area.

Heavy rain will lead to flash flooding in parts of Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. The warning is in effect until 10:15 p.m.

More than two inches of rain will be possible in parts of the area. Watch for rapid rise in water and roads having to be closed.

The strongest storms will be capable of 60+ mph damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Scattered power outages will be possible in some of the strongest storms.

UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: Fayette, Green, Washington and Westmoreland counties are all under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings until 6:15 p.m.

UPDATE 4:55 p.m.: Large hail is falling across the region, and Channel 11 viewers have sent in dozens of photos of hail up to the size of ping pong balls.

Flash flooding could be an issue throughout the night, according to Channel 11 Meteorologist Scott Harbaugh.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the entire area until 8 p.m. Heavy rain will lead to flash flooding in parts of Allegheny, Buter, Beaver, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties.

More than two inches of rain will be possible in parts of the area. Watch for rapid rise in water and roads having to be closed.

The strongest storms will be capable of 60-plus MPH damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Scattered power outages will be possible in some of the strongest storms.

UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: The tornado warning has expired, but much of our area is still under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. That includes Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Allegheny, Beaver, Washington and Fayette counties until 10:15 p.m.

UPDATE 4:05 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was just issued for Allegheny, Beaver and Westmoreland counties as well, in effect until 4:45 p.m.

UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: A Tornado Warning has been issued for Allegheny, Beaver and Washington counties until 4:15 p.m.

UPDATE 2:56 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for new areas of Butler and Armstrong counties.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: Areas of heavy rain and severe storms will continue to fire up through the afternoon and into early evening.

The strongest storms will be capable of 60+ mph damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Scattered power outages will be possible in some of the strongest storms.

UPDATE 1:43 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire viewing area through Saturday night.

Soaking rain and thunderstorms are likely Saturday with possible damaging winds. Pockets of heavy rain could cause localized flooding in some spots.
