PITTSBURGH — Soaking rain will change to snow showers early Thursday as colder air moves back in.

Rain will be steady at times before the changeover, and could cause minor flooding along creeks, streams and poor drainage areas. Some areas could pick up more than than an inch of rain, and the added water from melting snow could be an issue.

A Flood Watch is in effect for Beaver, Butler, Armstrong, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Clarion and Forest counties until 6 a.m. Thursday.

Temperatures will quickly fall before sunrise Thursday from the mid-30s to below freezing by 8 a.m. Snow will be steady at times, and will continue through mid-morning before tapering to snow showers.

Total snow accumulation will be around an inch or two for most of the area, but as ground temperatures cool, icy spots could form on untreated surfaces.

Winter chill will settle in behind this system, keeping high temperatures in the teens and 20s through the weekend. Several systems will also bring snow showers to the area through Sunday.
