Heavy rain during the day Thursday and a storm system will pour the coldest air of the season so far into the area Thursday night (Christmas Eve) and Christmas day, turning rain to snow for several hours Christmas Eve night.

A fresh couple of inches of white should blanket the ground by 7 a.m. on Christmas, giving us a white Christmas. By definition, the National Centers for Environmental Information defines “White Christmas” as at least one inch of snow on the ground at 7 a.m. Christmas day.
Watch for snowy travel conditions after 8-9 p.m. Thursday night last into Christmas morning.
Temperatures Christmas afternoon will be the coldest they’ve been since 2004 -- with highs struggling to near 20 degrees and wind chills in the single digits much of the day.
